Partnering with the community to make Indiana a healthier place
Matthew 25 student-run clinic
The IU School of Medicine Fort Wayne started a student-run clinic in partnership with Matthew 25 and local volunteer physicians. This clinic provides quality care to Fort Wayne residents that are uninsured and need quality medical attention.
The clinic offers an opportunity for students to have hands-on medical experience while building relationships with community members. The clinic, on average, cares for 105 patients per day.

Behavioral Health Academy
Indiana University Fort Wayne School of Social Work Students participate in the Behavioral Health Academy™ hosted by Parkview Behavioral Health.
The Behavioral Health Academy™ is an ongoing partnership between local hospitals and the Indiana University School of Social Work to prepare students for practice with mental health, substance use, and co-occurring disorders and to become dually-licensed as both a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) and Licensed Clinical Addiction Counselor (LCAC) in Indiana. The program is comprised of 580 hours of social service work in the community.

Providing preventative dental care to our community
The on-campus Dental Clinic offers high-quality, low-cost preventative dental services to the Fort Wayne community and serves over 2,000 patients each year.
The Dental Clinic provides our students a learning opportunity and supervised by licensed dentists and dental faculty.

Engaging in key community issues
Research is key to improving the overall health of our community. IU Fort Wayne partners with local organization to facilitate community-engaged projects and further research that improves the health in Fort Wayne.
Mask utilization study
The Richard M. Fairbanks School of Public Health at IU Fort Wayne observed more than 3,500 people at seven selected grocery stores in the area to see if residents were wearing their masks. The study was presented to the Allen County Board of Health Meeting.
Post-COVID Clinic and research
In collaboration with the Parkview Post COVID Clinic, Dr. Fen Lei Chang, the medical director of the Parkview Post COVID Clinic and Dean of the School of Medicine Fort Wayne, is participating in research and clinical trials aimed at helping patients recover and return to the life they knew before COVID-19.

School of Nursing researchers make headway on local policies of vaping
In 2019, two faculty members were recognized for their educational programs focused on e-cigarettes and public perception. Maria Hines and Denise Kneubuhler are educating influencers of youth on the risks of e-cigarettes based on national research.
Through these programs and regional partnerships, the two faculty members are implementing educational approaches to change the perception of vaping and take measures to change local policies on nicotine use.
