Biography

Dr Gutwein has been a practicing Emergency Physician at Parkview Health since 1993, serving as the Emergency Department Medical Director since 1998 and working not only in Allen County but also the surrounding 8 counties during that time.   He has assumed the responsibility of Health Commissioner of Allen County in July 2022, and currently works to promote public health throughout the county.   He attended Indiana University in Bloomington to obtain a BA degree in Biology in 1986 and graduated from IU School of Medicine in 1990, having attended his first year of medical school at IU in Fort Wayne.   He completed his Emergency Medicine Residency at Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis, and since has been a board-certified Emergency Physician.  He currently spends time managing his group of over 100 Emergency Physicians and Physician Assistants, a position he has held since 1998.  Much of his current work is focused on promoting better patient care, educating all levels of providers on managing medical concerns, educating the public about health matters, and promoting public health.
