Congratulations! Now that you have been admitted to IU Fort Wayne, it's time to take your next steps. Read through the checklist on this page to find out what you need to do to confirm your enrollment and prepare for your first semester.
Steps you can wrap up as soon as you're admitted
If you’re admitted to IU Fort Wayne, you’ll receive a letter of admission that includes important information about your:
University ID number:You’ll use this number to create your computing account and throughout your time at IU Fort Wayne.
School/division:Your school is the academic unit to which you have been admitted. Your school will provide your academic advising.
Major:Your major is your proposed area of study. Acceptance into a major is selective. To change your major, use ourapplication update formto request a new major.
Residency/tuition:Your residency determines whether you will pay in-state or out-of-state tuition.
Starting term:Your admission is valid only for the term indicated. To start in a different term, use ourapplication update formto request a change of term.
If there are any errors in your letter of admission, call us at 844.634.0005 to let us know.
If you are a freshman who will begin attending IU Fort Wayne in the Fall, you must pay a nonrefundable enrollment deposit of $100 to accept your offer of admission and secure your place in our freshman class. Your deposit will be applied to your first tuition bill.
Pay your deposit
You canpay your deposit online. As a reminder, your deposit isnot refundableif you decide to attend somewhere other than IU Fort Wayne.
Request a deposit waiver
You do not have to pay an enrollment deposit if you meet any of the criteria listed here. However, you mustrequest a deposit waiverto reserve your spot at IU Fort Wayne.
You are eligible to request a deposit waiver if:
You are an Indiana 21st Century Scholar.
You are the child of a disabled veteran receiving 100 percent tuition assistance.
You are receiving a select IU Fort Wayne scholarship that pays all or the majority of your tuition.

If you did not set up your computing account to check your admission status, you can also use the steps below to take care of this task. If you already have a computing account, you can follow the prompts to create your IU email account.
Search for and select “Create My First IU Account” in One.IU.
Read the Guidelines for Appropriate Usage, which are rules and policies for IT account use at IU, and agree to these policies.
Enroll in the Passphrase Self-Service Reset System. If you forget your passphrase, this tool will enable you to reset it yourself without having to visit a UITS Support Center walk-in location in person.
You will want to save or record your account information in a secure place. You will need this information each time you log in to your IU computing account.
Exit. It may take up to two hours before you can log in to some services.
What to do if you have forgotten your ID or other information
Please note that if you have ever previously been enrolled in or participated in a program at any IU campus and were given a 10-digit University ID number and username, you will use the same ID number and username to access your IU computing account (or use the steps above to set up your computing account if you have not already done so).
If you’re applying for need-based financial aid, be sure to submit the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). For priority awarding, be sure to fill out a new FAFSA each year between October 1 and April 15.*
*The 2025-2026 FAFSA will be available in December.
Remember to list IU Fort Wayne’s school code, E40457, on your application to ensure that your results are sent to IU Fort Wayne.

At IU Fort Wayne we offer more than 50 scholarships that you may be eligible for. All you need to do is simply complete the IU Scholarship application to be considered. The application opens in September and we recommend completing the application as soon as possible for maximum consideration.
As an IU Fort Wayne student, you'll have the same access to campus facilities, housing, services and activitiesas Purdue Fort Wayne students. In order to take advantage of these offerings, you must create a goPFW account.
To activate your account, you will need to know your birthdate and last four digits of your social security number
Once you make your goPFW account, save your Purdue Fort Wayne ID number.
You can find your Purdue Fort Wayne student ID number on the right side of the page when you login to your goPFW account. You will need this number to apply for housing.
Your FAN shows the estimated financial aid awards available to you for your first year at IU Fort Wayne. You’ll be able to see your financial aid for each semester and a total for the whole year. Your FAN also gives you details about your financial aid eligibility, expected costs, and other important information.
If you plan to live on campus, you can apply for housing starting in February. You will need your Purdue Fort Wayne Student ID number to apply for housing. Follow the steps above in the "Create your goPFW account" section to receive your Purdue Fort Wayne Student ID.
You must include the $20 non-refundable application fee + $250 refundable security deposit with your application.

Writing guided self-placement exam
If you have not taken ENGL 13100 as dual credit, AP, or at another institution, you will need to take your writing self-guided placement test which can be accessed through your goPFW account in the Enrollment tab.
Placement scores take 24 hours to load, then you can enroll in ENGL 13100 if placed into it.
Math placement exam
The math placement test can be taken and completed online by logging intoBrightspaceand then clicking on the tab “PFW No End Date Non-Credit.”
You should allow at least one hour for the math placement test. Calculators, TI84CE or below, are allowed, and you will need a pencil and scratch paper.
The math placement test may be retaken once. On a retest, the scores will either be the same, higher, or lower. The highest score will be used.

New Student Orientation is designed to help you transition to the IU Fort Wayne community. It's an opportunity to meet other new students, learn about being a student at IU Fort Wayne, and receive guidance with the class registration process.
New Student Orientation will be offered on the following dates:

July 17
August 7
All events will be from 1-4 p.m. in Neff Hall 101.
Registration is only required for one event. Please note that capacity is limited per orientation session.
Before you attend New Student Orientation, make sure you have completed these items on your checklist:
Created your IU and goPFW accounts
Accessed IU and goPFW emails
Scheduled and took your placement exams
Completed the pre-registration Canvas course
Submitted dual credit/AP scores
Submitted information for your ID Cards
If you were admitted during your senior year, remember that you are required to graduate from high school to attend IU Fort Wayne. You are expected to complete all courses listed on your application for admission and to earn a grade of C or better in each class.
If these conditions are not met, it is your responsibility to contact the Office of Undergraduate Admissions before you begin at IU Fort Wayne. Failure to do so could result in a revocation of your acceptance.
Your transcripts must be sent directly from your high school. If your school sends transcripts electronically, please use iufw.transcripts@iu.edu. You can also have your transcript mailed to the following address:

If you’re enrolled in college courses (including dual-enrollment courses you have completed or will complete) at the time of admission, you must arrange for a final transcript to be sent to the Office of Undergraduate Admissions. You are expected to complete all courses listed on your application for admission, leave your former college with a cumulative GPA of 2.0 or higher (on a 4.0 scale), and be eligible to return to the college in good standing.
If these conditions are not met, it is your responsibility to contact the Office of Undergraduate Admissions before you begin at IU Fort Wayne. Failure to do so could result in a revocation of your acceptance.
