If you’re admitted to IU Fort Wayne, you’ll receive a letter of admission that includes important information about your:

• University ID number: You’ll use this number to create your computing account and throughout your time at IU Fort Wayne.
• School/division: Your school is the academic unit to which you have been admitted. Your school will provide your academic advising.
• Major: Your major is your proposed area of study. Acceptance into a major is selective. To change your major, use our application update form to request a new major.
• Residency/tuition: Your residency determines whether you will pay in-state or out-of-state tuition.
• Starting term: Your admission is valid only for the term indicated. To start in a different term, use our application update form to request a change of term.

If there are any errors in your letter of admission, call us at 844.634.0005 to let us know.

Accept your offer of admission

If you did not set up your computing account to check your admission status, you can also use the steps below to take care of this task. If you already have a computing account, you can follow the prompts to create your IU email account.

1. Search for and select “Create My First IU Account” in One.IU.
2. Read the Guidelines for Appropriate Usage, which are rules and policies for IT account use at IU, and agree to these policies.
3. Enroll in the Passphrase Self-Service Reset System. If you forget your passphrase, this tool will enable you to reset it yourself without having to visit a UITS Support Center walk-in location in person.
4. You will want to save or record your account information in a secure place. You will need this information each time you log in to your IU computing account.
5. Exit. It may take up to two hours before you can log in to some services.

What to do if you have forgotten your ID or other information

• Forgot your 10-digit University ID number? Use the Student Self-Service University Lookup Form to access your University ID.
• Forgot your username? Contact the UITS Support Center.
• Forgot your passphrase? Reset it here.

Please note that if you have ever previously been enrolled in or participated in a program at any IU campus and were given a 10-digit University ID number and username, you will use the same ID number and username to access your IU computing account (or use the steps above to set up your computing account if you have not already done so).

If you’re applying for need-based financial aid, be sure to submit the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). For priority awarding, be sure to fill out a new FAFSA each year between October 1 and April 15.

*The 2025-2026 FAFSA will be available in December. 

Remember to list IU Fort Wayne’s school code, E40457, on your application to ensure that your results are sent to IU Fort Wayne.

Opt-in to texting

As an IU Fort Wayne student, you'll have the same access to campus facilities, housing, services and activitiesas Purdue Fort Wayne students. In order to take advantage of these offerings, you must create a goPFW account. 

1. Visit Purdue Fort Wayne's Account Activation webpage
2. To activate your account, you will need to know your birthdate and last four digits of your social security number
3. Once you make your goPFW account, save your Purdue Fort Wayne ID number. 
4. You can find your Purdue Fort Wayne student ID number on the right side of the page when you login to your goPFW account. You will need this number to apply for housing. 

Your FAN shows the estimated financial aid awards available to you for your first year at IU Fort Wayne. You’ll be able to see your financial aid for each semester and a total for the whole year. Your FAN also gives you details about your financial aid eligibility, expected costs, and other important information.

FAN's are available in mid-April.

If you're planning to live on campus, you can apply for housing starting in February. You will need your Purdue Fort Wayne Student ID number to apply for housing. Follow the steps above in the "Create your goPFW account" section to receive your Purdue Fort Wayne Student ID. 

You will need to include the $20 non-refundable application fee + $150 refundable security deposit with your application. 

Steps to start your housing application: 

1. Login to your goPFW account
2. Locate the enrollment tab
3. Click housing portal

Writing guided self-placement exam

If you have not taken ENGL 13100 as dual credit, AP, or at another institution, you will need to take your writing self-guided placement test which can be accessed through your goPFW account in the Enrollment tab. 

Placement scores take 24 hours to load, then you can enroll in ENGL 13100 if placed into it. 

Math placement exam

The math placement test can be taken and completed online by logging into Brightspace and then clicking on the tab “PFW No End Date Non-Credit.”

You should allow at least one hour for the math placement test. Calculators, TI84CE or below, are allowed, and you will need a pencil and scratch paper.

The math placement test may be retaken once. On a retest, the scores will either be the same, higher, or lower. The highest score will be used.

All new students are required to meet with their academic advisor for Advising & Registration, which is when you will leave more about your program, get to know your advisor and register for first semester classes. 

Meet your advisor and set up an appointment

Before you attend your Advising & Registration appointment:

• Ensure both your goPFW and IU computing accounts are created and active.
• Take your writing and math placement exams.
• Have all final transcripts for high school, dual credit, and AP courses sent to IU Fort Wayne.
• Completed the pre-registration online tutorial. 

What to bring to Advising & Registration Appointment:

• Username and passwords for both IU and goPFW accounts. You will need these to register for classes.
• A government-issued photo ID, you will be taking a photo for your university ID card.

Indiana state law requires IU Fort Wayne to inform all students of the risks of meningococcal disease, commonly known as meningitis, and the benefits of vaccination. While you are not required to be vaccinated against meningitis, you must complete the Immunization Compliance Form.

CrimsonCard is the official photo ID card for all Indiana University campuses, available to IU students, faculty and staff. It provides access to a variety of essential IU services. Students who have been accepted to IU Fort Wayne can submit a photo before attending orientation.

Your Mastodon Card is your official ID for the IU Fort Wayne campus. You can use this card for Gates Fitness Center, Helmke Library, your meal plan, attending student life events and much more. 

The process of getting your Mastodon Card can be completed today by submitting your photo! There are requirements your photo must meet, including: 

• In jpg format with a photo size of 2 MB or 2048 KB.
• A current, color photo with a neutral-colored, smooth background and proper lighting.
• A centered and front-view, full-face image with eyes open and visible (prescription glasses allowed).

NOTE: Do not wear hats, sunglasses or other items that obscure the face. Photos must NOT contain excessive glare or shadow, other visible people, distracting objects or inappropriate expressions. All photos are subject to approval.

You will also need your 900# and your PFW email address. 

Once have your perfect picture, it’s time to submit it. To do this, visit the Mastodon Card form. You will receive and email regarding when Mastodon cards will be distributed.

If you’re enrolled in college courses (including dual-enrollment courses you have completed or will complete) at the time of admission, you must arrange for a final transcript to be sent to the Office of Undergraduate Admissions. You are expected to complete all courses listed on your application for admission, leave your former college with a cumulative GPA of 2.0 or higher (on a 4.0 scale), and be eligible to return to the college in good standing.

If these conditions are not met, it is your responsibility to contact the Office of Undergraduate Admissions before you begin at IU Fort Wayne. Failure to do so could result in a revocation of your acceptance.
