Fort Wayne, Ind. – Indiana University Fort Wayne (IUFW) School of Dentistry partnered with the Allen County Public Library (ACPL) and Fort Wayne Community Schools (FWCS) in honor of Children’s Dental Health Month.

National Children’s Dental Health Month is a national health observance that brings together thousands of dedicated professionals, health care providers, and educators to promote the benefits of good oral health to children, their caregivers, teachers, and others.

“It’s harder to teach children the importance of oral health,” said Hadeel Ayoub, Visiting Assistant Professor at IU Fort Wayne School of Dentistry. “We are not just teaching them the method on how to brush, by why we are brushing, why we are flossing, and why we need to avoid all of the delicious snacks that are easily available to them.”

The IU Fort Wayne dental hygiene and dental assisting students hosted multiple activity tables for local families including brushing and flossing puppets, coloring teeth pictures, and Play-Doh dental kit fun.

“As a student taking the Community Dental Hygiene track, and has a heart for service, I found this opportunity as a moment to teach young children in Fort Wayne how to have good oral hygiene,” said Lindsey Brown, IU Fort Wayne Dental Hygiene student.

“There is nothing more enjoyable to me than serving the city of Fort Wayne in company with IU Fort Wayne Dental Hygiene faculty and students.”
