Fort Wayne, Ind. – Indiana University Fort Wayne has become the regional hub for health science programs and students pursuing careers in nursing, medical imaging, social work, dentistry, and medicine. The university and its graduates have made a lasting impact in the Fort Wayne community through various outreach programs, including Matthew 25.
Matthew 25 is an independent dental and medical center located off East Jefferson in Fort Wayne. In recent years, the IU Fort Wayne School of Medicine campus has started a student-run clinic in partnership with Matthew 25 and local volunteer physicians. The clinic provides quality care to Fort Wayne residents that are uninsured and need proper medical attention.
The student-run clinic, located at Matthew 25, offers an opportunity for students to have hands-on medical experience while building relationships with community members. The clinic, on average, cares for roughly 105 patients per day and logs more than 25,000 patient visits per year.
“Working at the clinic is a wonderful opportunity to help people in our community get access to healthcare when they may not otherwise be able to,” said Caleb Morton, IU Fort Wayne School of Medicine student. “It also allows us, as students, to directly make a positive impact, under the supervision of volunteer community doctors, on the health of our fellow community members. I consider it a privilege to continue serving this community.”
