Indiana University Fort Wayne is the beneficiary of a gift from the estate of Dr. Jason David Gillum. The gift will fund the Dr. Jason David Gillum Memorial Scholarship at IU Fort Wayne which will provide scholarships for students pursuing careers in Medical Imaging.

Dr. Gillum was a graduate of Pomona College, Harvard Law School, and the Indiana School of Medicine. He then completed a residency at Aurora St. Luke's Medical Center in Milwaukee, and a fellowship year in nuclear medicine in the Harvard hospitals in Boston. Shortly after, he accepted a position at Fort Wayne Radiology and Parkview Medical Center as a radiologist with a specialty in nuclear medicine.

Dr. Gillum died in a tragic hiking accident on August 15, 2023, while hiking with his beloved wife, Melanie. At the time of his death, he was the Medical Director for PET fusion at Fort Wayne Radiology and Parkview Medical Center. He had a passion for his vocation, loved his work, and helping his patients and his colleagues, and was an advocate for the welfare, training, and skills development of his team of radiology technicians.

“To honor his lifelong love of learning; his passion for teaching and his commitment to his technicians, it seemed fitting that a scholarship be established in his name to support the education and training of radiology technicians in the city where he practiced his craft,” David M. Gillum, Father of Dr. Jason David Gillum said. “In this manner, we hope to convert tears into fertilizer and make things grow in Jason’s name.”

The Dr. Jason David Gillum Memorial Scholarship will provide critical support for students and will significantly advance the mission of IU Fort Wayne of educating the next generation of health professionals.
