A new joint initiative will make it easier for graduating Fort Wayne Community Schools students to enroll at Indiana University Fort Wayne beginning with the 2025-26 academic year.
Under the new “seamless enrollment” initiative, students graduating from FWCS high schools with a GPA of at least 2.0 will be admitted at IU Fort Wayne for the following academic year. The initiative will help save FWCS students time and money by automatically admitting them to the only university in Northeast Indiana with a singular mission to educate the next generation of health professionals.
“This is an exciting and important initiative that will provide Fort Wayne Community Schools students an easier, more affordable path forward to pursue higher education,” said Dr. Deborah Garrison, inaugural vice chancellor and dean of IU Fort Wayne. “We’re honored to partner with FWCS to help remove the deadlines, fees, and other requirements that can often be significant obstacles to students who seek to make a difference in improving the health and wellbeing of our community and region.”
“IU Fort Wayne is an outstanding institution leading the way in developing and inspiring the next generation of health care leaders,” said Dr. Mark Daniel, superintendent of Fort Wayne Community Schools. “We are excited to partner with them on this initiative to make an IU Fort Wayne education more accessible and attainable for our students.”
The seamless enrollment initiative between IU Fort Wayne and Fort Wayne Community Schools expands on the statewide Indiana Pre-Admissions: Your Path to College initiative, which was launched by the Indiana Commission for Higher Education in August 2023 and provides high school seniors statewide a more comprehensive overview and understanding of their options for postsecondary education.
“Navigating college applications, fees, transcripts and everything that goes into pursuing higher education can be overwhelming,” said Brit Oldfather, IU Fort Wayne student. “For students interested in health care as a career path, seamless enrollment will provide them direct access to this amazing school and its many outstanding programs.”
