With a new academic year underway, Indiana University Fort Wayne announces continued growth as it strengthens and amplifies its mission of developing the next generation of health professionals. The university celebrates a 7.2% increase in undergraduate enrollment for the Fall 2024 semester – a total of 1,034 students. This marks the sixth consecutive semester of enrollment growth for IU Fort Wayne.
In addition to overall enrollment growth, IU Fort Wayne continues its ongoing, intentional efforts to enhance diversity, equity and inclusion in student enrollment and retention. For the fall semester, students of color make up 33.8% of the student population, a 10.1% increase from the previous academic year.
IU Fort Wayne Assistant Vice Chancellor of Enrollment Management and Operations David Chappell said, “We are proud of IU Fort Wayne’s continued growth because it demonstrates that we are serving the needs of students and the needs of our community. We will continue to add and develop programs that benefit students and fit our mission.”
IU Fort Wayne is the only university in Northeast Indiana with a singular mission to educate and develop highly qualified health professionals for high-demand roles through exceptional and inclusive educational opportunities, with an organizational focus on health equity. For the fall semester, the university launched a new exploratory program intended for students who are interested in a career in healthcare but not certain which specific profession may be the right fit.
“As IU Fort Wayne grows enrollment, we will continue to increase the number of professionals ready to fill critical talent needs in healthcare,” said Dr. Deborah Garrison, inaugural vice chancellor and dean of IU Fort Wayne. I am continually impressed by the positive ways our students contribute to our community's health and well-being, with 87% of our graduates remaining in Northeast Indiana after graduation. Our students will graduate and be prepared to enter the workforce.”
