Dr. Kathleen Williamson, associate dean and professor at the Indiana University School of Nursing in Fort Wayne, has been named to the 2025 Class of Fellows of the National League for Nursing Academy of Nursing Education.
Williamson is one of only 23 nurse educators selected nationally to join the 19th Class of Fellows.
The fellowship recognizes individuals who have made sustained and significant contributions to nursing education and who provide visionary leadership to advance the field. Williamson was honored for her decades-long commitment to preparing the next generation of nurses, as well as her leadership in advancing nursing education and innovation.
“I was both humbled and deeply honored when I learned of my selection,” Williamson said. “This recognition affirms not just my efforts, but the collective commitment to advancing excellence in nursing education. It is a privilege to use this platform to continue transforming how we prepare the next generation of nurses.”
Williamson joined IU Fort Wayne in 2023 as associate dean and professor, bringing with her more than 20 years of experience in higher education as a faculty member, college administrator and chief academic/nursing officer. She has more than 30 years of teaching experience, beginning her career in secondary education before transitioning into higher education.
Throughout her career, Williamson has mentored faculty, staff and students, emphasizing evidence-based practice, innovation in nursing education and the integration of technology to improve teaching and patient care. She comes from a family of seven nurses across generations, which she says has helped shape her commitment to education as both a profession and a calling.
“Nursing education is not just about teaching content,” Williamson said. “It is about mentoring, inspiring and shaping future nurses who will touch countless lives.”
The NLN Academy of Nursing Education was established in 2007 to foster excellence in nursing education by recognizing individuals who contribute to sustained and innovative leadership. Fellows support the mission of the National League for Nursing by mentoring nurse faculty, advancing academic excellence and strengthening the nursing workforce.
Williamson was inducted during the 2025 NLN Education Summit Sept. 17–19 in Orlando, Florida.
