Fort Wayne, Ind. – Indiana University Fort Wayne is hosting its first graduation ceremony since separating from Purdue University Fort Wayne in 2018. Since becoming a stand-alone college, IU Fort Wayne has established itself as the premier research and health science university with majors from the School of Dentistry, School of Health and Human Sciences, School of Medicine, School of Nursing, School of Public Health, and School of Social Work.

This year’s graduation will have a total of 187 undergraduate students receiving their diplomas. Additionally, the college will be graduating 29 Master of Social Work students and 29 students from the School of Medicine Fort Wayne campus.

“We are thrilled to celebrate our first graduating class from our university,” said Ann Obergfell, Vice Chancellor of Academic Affairs and Operations at IU Fort Wayne. “We have hit many milestones in four years. This one is our biggest milestone yet.”

In the past four years, the college’s enrollment rate increased from 250 students to over 1,000. Of the students graduating, more than 78 percent plan to stay and serve the Fort Wayne community.

“To say we are proud of our graduates is an understatement,” said Obergfell. “We have not only watched these incredible students blossom into exceptional individuals, but most have chosen to stay in the Greater Fort Wayne community to continue serving Hoosiers in need of quality health care.”

The commencement ceremony will take place on Friday, May 13 at 6:00 p.m. at Foellinger Theatre.
