Make sure that you’re meeting the eligibility requirements for your financial aid awards. Some awards require you to be enrolled as a full-time student. Others may require you to complete an acceptance form to receive the money. Gift aid, like scholarships or grants, are automatically accepted for you. For awards like Federal Student Loans and Federal Work-Study, we will offer you the maximum amount that you are eligible for. To receive the financial aid, you just need to tell us how much you’d like to use. Log into your Student Center and click the “Accept/Decline Aid” link to let us know if you’d like to receive some, none, or all of your loans and work-study.
Some awards are estimated because the actual amount that will be given to you is dependent upon meeting additional eligibility factors. For example, several awards are based upon the total number of credit hours you are taking throughout the semester. Until final enrollment is set, the amount of the award is estimated.
Other awards are estimated because at the time you received the FAN, final award amounts may not have been set by the funding agency. For example, state of Indiana awards, like the Frank O’Bannon Grant, may be listed as estimated until final funding levels are determined.
Yes. Every time aid is adjusted (increased, decreased, or cancelled) you will receive an email at your university email address advising you to log into One. IU to review the changes. Be sure to check your university email account regularly so you don’t miss any updates.
As long as you have all required financial aid steps completed, your financial aid awards will be applied to your student account 10 days before classes begin. Your financial aid will automatically be applied to your tuition, fees, campus housing, and meal plan charges. If you want to use your financial aid to cover other costs, make sure to complete the Title IV authorization form.
Your FAN is based on the information that we have right now. The financial aid awards on your FAN aren’t the only resources available to help you cover your expenses at IU Fort Wayne. Learn more about other options.
Your cost of attendance gives you an estimate of all the costs associated with being a student at IU Fort Wayne, but it’s only an estimate. You will only need to pay IU Fort Wayne for direct costs (like tuition, fees, campus housing, and your meal plan) not already covered by your financial aid. Our cost calculator can help you estimate your actual tuition and fee charges. And, remember, your FAN only includes awards that you’ve received as of right now. If you haven’t already done so, make sure to complete the competitive scholarship application or your FAFSA to maximize your financial aid eligibility.
Your financial aid eligibility is based on your 2021-2022 FAFSA. This FAFSA uses 2019 tax information. If your financial situation has changed significantly, we may be able to re-evaluate your financial aid awards based on your current finances. Contact us at fwfinaid@iufw.edu for more information.
The Department of Education randomly selects some FAFSAs for an additional review process called federal verification. If you're selected, we're required to collect documentation from you to confirm the information on your FAFSA. Your financial aid awards might change as a result of verification, and the process must be completed before you can receive your financial aid this fall. Follow these tips to complete verification:
Check your To Do List on One.IU to see what documents are required and to find important details on how to complete them.
If you didn't use the IRS Data Retrieval Tool (DRT) when completing the FAFSA, correct your FAFSA data by using the DRT now. Using the DRT will reduce the tax documents we'll need from you.
Monitor your IU email regularly. We'll reach out to you by email if we need any additional information.
